La Manga Club has reinforced its status as Spain’s top golf resort after the highly-regarded Top 100 Golf Courses website unveiled its new 2016 rankings. The award-winning Murcia venue was the only resort in Spain to have three courses included in the top 40 of the updated list, with its West, South and North layouts among the leading climbers in the standings and combining for an impressive total rise of 53 places.

La Manga Club’s West Course rose a massive 19 places to 17th in the latest rankings, ten ahead of the South Course, a five-time host of the Spanish Open, while the North Course took 39th position after moving up 24 places.

The new acclaim follows quickly in the footsteps of the resort being named ‘Spain’s Best Golf Hotel’ at the 2015 World Golf Awards and is further recognition for La Manga Club’s decision to invest signigicantly in its golfing facilities over the last 18 months including opening a Leadbetter Golf Academy – the only one in mainland Spain.

Explaining its decision, a Top 100 Golf Courses spokesman said: “The Top 100 team visited La Manga Club recently and we were very impressed by what we experienced.

“We have since listened to a number of well-travelled golfers who told us we had the resort’s three courses ranked too low in the listings so we have taken corrective action, resulting in each of the three courses improving their position on the chart.

“The newest course, the West, leaps 19 places to number 17 while the South climbs up ten places. The shortest layout on the property, the North, soars an incredible 24 places to number 39 – a sensational gain.”

Set in an area three times the size of Monaco, La Manga Club’s other golfing facilities include three 18-hole courses, a nine-hole academy course and outstanding practice amenities, while its wide array of outstanding sports and leisure amenities, bars and restaurants have helped to establish it as a firm favourite with visiting golfers.

Eduardo Ruiz, director of golf at La Manga Club, said: “Spain has a great number of fantastic golf courses so for all three courses to be ranked inside the top 40 of the new list is wonderful news for the resort.

“This is further reward for the major investment that La Manga Club has made in its golf product to help maintain the resort’s position as a Mecca for golfers across Europe and beyond over the coming years.”

Among its other accolades in 2015, La Manga Club was shortlisted at the 2015 Family Traveller Awards and voted ‘Best Golf Resort in Spain’ by UK readers of Today’s Golfer magazine for the fourth year running, while its West Course was elevated among the top 100 courses in continental Europe.

As well as golf, the resort’s extensive facilities include a 28-court tennis academy, a new High Performance Sports Centre and 2,000m² spa and fitness complex, a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses and more than 20 bars and restaurants.
