La Cala Resort celebrates 35 years of being part of the history of tourism on the Costa del Sol. It was in 1989 when the first stone of its Asia Course was laid, the first of the three courses that make up the resort. Since then, the complex has been growing along with the Costa del Sol destination, becoming a reference in international tourism.
The evolution and prestige achieved by the resort in these 35 years are testimony to its ongoing commitment to excellence. Proof of this are its three 18-hole courses designed by Cabell Robinson and its academy located next to the six-hole par three golf course, which are the jewel in the crown. But, in addition, its facilities include a 107-room hotel, soccer field built according to FIFA international standards, fitness center, gym, tennis and squash courts and 3 paddle tennis courts.
La Cala was purchased by FBD Hotels & Resorts, its current owner, in the late 1980´s. Despite early difficulties and the difficult terrain, FBD, decided to buy the complex with the intention of developing a 54-hole resort with its own hotel. One thousand acres of farmland was purchased for about £5M in the foothills of Mijas. The hotel was built in 1996 with 107 rooms, and in 2005, a luxury Spa was added. With a long-term vision, the first golf course (Campo Asia) was opened in 1990, the second (Campo America) in the mid-90´s and the third (Campo Europa) in 2005.
In addition to golf, the resort has focused its philosophy on a wide range of quality sports facilities including a football pitch built to FIFA international standards, fitness centre, gymnasium, tennis and squash courts and three recently opened padel tennis courts. The latter, recently inaugurated, feature a panoramic design offering 360-degree views of the stunning La Cala landscape.
The opening marks the completion of another phase of an upgrade that has included extensive improvements both inside and outside the Clubhouse. The Clubhouse Bar & Restaurant, its iconic clubhouse has a new menu based on top quality products and Km. 0 and completes the reforms made on the terrace that have turned it into a modern and light-filled space overlooking the golf course, the hotel and the nature surrounding the resort. Continuing in the gastronomic field, it´s Andalusian restaurant La Bodega offers a renewed menu of tapas and dishes perfect for sharing.
La Cala Resort features quite a wide range of properties throughout, it´s 400 hectares, and over the last 9 years, has been in partnership with Taylor Wimpey España, a leading player in the Spanish construction industry, to offer high quality properties. They are currently promoting Solana Village and Belaria, 2 and 3-bedrooms apartments and 3-bedrooms townhouses, respectively. Once finished, they will add another 220 units to the resort, as well as a brand-new commercial centre.
