The Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Tampa is set to rock the Ladies European Tour (LET) this weekend in its primary stateside tournament, before the much-anticipated Solheim Cup later in 2024.
Kicking off for the very first time in Tampa on Friday 8 March, the Feather Sound Country Club in Clearwater is set to host a prestigious tournament featuring some of the most prominent figures in women’s golf as they compete for a coveted title on the LET.
The tournament boasts an impressive lineup of 84 competitors, including 39 LET champions, nine LPGA victors, and three Major titleholders. The star golfer’s will also be competing in the tournament’s team component, where each group of four will be enhanced by the addition of an amateur player, all contributing to the team’s overall score.
Team USA star Lexi Thompson, alongside her Solheim Cup 2023 teammate Megan Khang and newly announced assistant captain Brittany Lincicome, will battle Team Europe’s shining lights Charley Hull and Carlota Ciganda, this time for the total $1million prize fund split across the team and individual events.
Discussing the weekend ahead, Carlota Ciganda said: “This is a fun course, I feel like it’s pretty wide open, and one that you can go low with if you bring it all together out there.”
“With the win last year, it’s a special event for me, and I would love to win again this year. I am excited to play the course and get going on Friday.
“I really enjoy team events, they are a lot of fun. Having played in Riyadh and winning there, hopefully I can have another fun team and we can do the same this week.”
Team Roussin, last year’s triumphant group in Florida consisted of captain Pauline Roussin-Bouchard, Spaniard Nuria Iturrioz and Solheim Cup celestial Trish Johnson, all of whom find themselves returning to the Sunshine State in 2024 to compete for glory.
Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Tampa is the fourth stop for the LET elite and Briton Bronte Law will be arriving at Feather Sound Country Club as the most recent champion after a win at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco just one week ago.
Shannon Tan of Singapore, a competing amateur at last year’s Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – Singapore, will be full to the brim with confidence after her first professional win at the LET’s first event of 2024, the Magical Kenya Ladies Open, which made her the first Singaporean to win on the LET.
One of three Major winners in the field this week is Sophia Popov, making her first professional golf appearance since the birth of her first child in June of 2023. The 2020 AIG Women’s Open Champion is looking to hit the ground running, as she captains a team on her first ever Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF event.
Having finished runner-up in the team event at Aramco Team Series Presented by PIF – New York in 2021, the German national will be looking to go one step further in Tampa and seal the win.
Aramco team Series Presented by PIF – Tampa is one of the five team events on the LET teeing off at 8:30am (ET) on Friday 8 March. Future stops stretch across the globe, including destinations in Asia, the Middle East and the United Kingdom. With International Women’s Day on the first day of competition here in Tampa, the showcase of women’s excellence in golf will not be one to miss.
