LUMINE Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community’s unfolding reputation as one of Europe’s most sought-after championship destinations has been further affirmed following its selection as host venue for the first ever Nordea Tour event to be held outside the Nordic region. Inspired by immaculate Troon conditioning and year-round reliable climate at LUMINE Golf Club, aspiring young Nordic professionals will land from 21st February to 2nd March 2014 to compete in the Nordea Tour Winter Series.
“To be selected as the new home of the Nordea Tour Winter Series is a real honour and we look forward to hosting the competitors for what will undoubtedly be an enthralling couple of weeks,” commented Calle Carlsson, General Manager, LUMINE Golf Club. “The Lakes and Hills courses have previously welcomed some of the world’s finest golfers and it is thanks to the team’s hard work that the courses are consistently presented in superb condition for an event of this nature. We hope the event will be the start of a flourishing relationship with the Tour.”
Organised by Swedish Golf Tours, the Nordic circuit is a Satellite Tour to the European Tour providing a competitive platform for up and coming male and female talent on their way to becoming successful international players. Running back to back, the Winter Series events will open with a hotly contested Pro Am followed by 54-holes strokeplay over the Greg Norman designed LUMINE Lakes course. A week later the challenging and picturesque Hills course will be the stage for what is set to be a thrilling climax to proceedings. A total of 108 men and 38 ladies will compete in each event.
Mikael Sorling, CEO, Nordea Tour said: “We are proud to add LUMINE Golf Club to the Nordea Tour’s playing schedule and in doing so we are able to extend the season to support the growth of the tour. LUMINE Golf Club has been a popular choice thanks to accessibility from the Nordic region and the comprehensive facilities on offer to support an event of such size.”
LUMINE Golf Club, located one hour south of Barcelona, has become an increasingly popular venue for championship golf and the Nordea Tour can place confidence in the resort’s impressive track record of successfully hosted high profile events. Beyond the club’s 45-holes of championship golf and first class practice facilities, LUMINE has also been commended for its accessibility, the diversity within the local region and its comprehensive off-course facilities – including the sophisticated Lumine Beach Club. Together, these attributes have propelled LUMINE to its status as one Europe’s most dynamic destinations.
Located within 170 acres, LUMINE Golf Club, includes the Greg Norman designed Lakes Course and the more traditional Hills Course which runs through pine and olive trees with spectacular views of the nearby coastline. The two championship courses are further complimented by the aptly named 9-hole Ruins Course, another Norman design that weaves its way through Roman archaeological remains from the second century and completes a diverse 45-hole offering of immaculately presented golf that caters for golfers of all ages and abilities.
