At the beginning of 2019 UGOLF Iberia created a new golf department in Murcia after taking over the management of three new courses, Mar Menor Golf Resort, Saurines de la Torre and Hacienda del Alamo Golf Resort. This leading company in golf course management hired Eduardo Ruiz to run this new section. He is an experienced golf course manager as he has worked for prestigious golf courses such as Finca Cortesín, La Quinta Golf & Country Club, Real Club Valderrama and La Manga Club.
Hacienda del Alamo Golf Resort was designed by Dave Thomas. It has a first 18-hole itinerary that is perfectly integrated in its natural surroundings; it has wide greens and strategically located hazards to create a challenging game of golf. It is considered one of the best courses in Murcia and UGOLF Iberia has great plans for this course. Remodeling works are being carried out since the beginning of the year in order to change the hazards on the greens as well as improvement works in the Club House and the irrigation system. These changes aim to apply efficiency criteria in order to raise quality standards in these facilities and thus, have the possibility of hosting a professional event in the next years.
As the beginning of a successful development, the Amateur Golf World Cub (AGWC), one of the most important amateur golf circuits in the world, chose Hacienda del Alamo to host its international final. This states the importance of the Costa Cálida on a global scale as a leading golf destination.
Besides, the complex has a hotel run by Marriot, a prestigious hotel chain. Its 154 rooms and 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments are a fantastic accommodation option right by the golf course. Also, Corvera airport, just ten minutes’ away, has recently opened and this will mean a great boost to develop golf in the resort.
Saurines de la Torre Golf is Jack Nicklaus’ design. It shares similarities with some of his desert-like courses in Las Vegas and Arizona; however, they put into practice the idea connected holes. This golf course has undulated fairways that meander through sand dunes and impressively modulated greens, few bunkers and a large lake in the middle.
Since it opened in 2011, Saurines de la Torre Golf is a reference course in the area. UGOLF has planned a putting and short game area as well as improvement works in the club house.
Mar Menor Golf Resort was designed by Dave Thomas and Jack Nicklaus. Its first nine holes were designed by Thomas and the last nine by Nicklaus. It has wide fairways and a large variety of designs. Its excellent training facilities apart from the Driving Range include a putting green, a chipping green and a training and practice hole. UGOLF is going to develop a new maintenance plan in this course in order to achieve the quality standards required by a five-star resort.
The Hotel Caleia Mar Menor Golf & Spa Resort 5* is located by the golf course. It has 64 rooms and The Residences apartments. They offer a wide variety of accommodation for short and long stays.
