Bordered by two seas and blessed with an almost perpetually clear sky, the region reveals itself to be a destination full of contrasts. Here, cities with centuries of history coexist with tranquil beaches and mountains that beckon you to lose yourself, not to mention a cuisine that captivates from the very first bite. It’s a place where every day can begin with light and end with a toast in front of the sea.

Catedral de Murcia

A walk-through centuries of history

Murcia city is pure life. As you wander through the historic centre, you will come across the imposing cathedral, whose tower rises like an urban lighthouse, and the old casino, a building seemingly frozen in time. In the squares and on the terraces, the art of tapas becomes a shared ritual.

Cartagena, on the coast, is an open-air museum. The Roman Theatre, the city walls and the naval museums tell the stories of sailors and ancient civilisations, and the sea permeates the cuisine with flavours that have travelled for centuries.

In Lorca, known as the city of the Sun, a castle dominates the skyline, preserving Jewish and Baroque heritage within its walls. From its towers, exciting horizons open.

Caravaca de la Cruz, one of Christianity’s five holy places, offers routes combining spirituality, sacred art and nature, inviting both contemplation and adventure.

The region is also a paradise for golf lovers. With over 300 days of sunshine a year and 19 courses with a total of 348 holes within a 35-kilometre radius, you can enjoy a variety of courses without travelling far. Courses designed by legends such as Jack Nicklaus and Dave Thomas combine sea, nature and accessibility. Resorts such as La Manga Club reinforce the region’s international prestige and confirm its quality as a destination.

FARO DE CABO DE PALOS

The perfect combination: sea and mountains!

There is no need to choose between the two: here, the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor coexist. The latter is the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe and is ideal for relaxation and water sports. The mineral waters are also a source of well-being. Inland, towns such as Moratalla, Cehegín and Cieza offer visitors an authentic experience of the region, with narrow streets, wildflowers and vast skies. Sierra Espuña, the region’s first natural area to be endorsed by the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (CETS) and Murcia’s green lung, completes this natural landscape with its forests and trails, which can be explored on foot or by bicycle.

Land of flavours

The cuisine deserves a chapter of its own. Examples include arroz caldero by the sea, marinera as a light snack, paparajotes (lemon leaves battered — but don’t eat the leaves!) and café asiático with a touch of liqueur. These pair perfectly with the wines of Bullas, Jumilla and Yecla.

For all these reasons, the Region of Murcia is a destination that combines history, nature and flavour at every turn. It’s much more than just sun and sand — it’s a place to experience with all your senses.
