In May this year the only hotel with 5* in the Marina Alta region, the Denia Marriott La Sella, will celebrate its 10th anniversary.
A whole decade has already passed since Bill Marriott, president of Marriott International and the hotel´s franchiser, personally, along with the resort´s developer, cut the ribbon symbolizing the “launching” of this ship, insignia of first-rate tourism on the Costa Blanca.
At the same time, the splendid Ryder Cup´s winner, José María Olazábal, struck the ball with his driver from the hotel´s terrace until the golf course, designed by himself 23 years ago. The then actor and politician today, Toni Cantó acted as the emcee of a spectacular party with the presence of many personalities from the world of economics, culture, sports and politics.
Throughout these years La Sella Golf Resort has hosted numerous events. In its ball rooms with a capacity for more than 1000 people local celebrations as the Fallas or Rice a Banda competitions have taken place, and also meetings of multinational companies such as Siemens, Phillips, KPMG or Nike and family celebrations with more than 900 events being organized successfully.
Regarding the recreational aspect, the hotel halls have hosted all kind of spectacles, from concerts of classical music to boxing nights. To be especially mentioned the Simple Minds concerts in 2012, where on both occasions all tickets were sold out.
But if there is something the resort has been outstanding all over Europe it´s the organization of big golf events. Spain´s principle companies have chosen the La Sella Golf Resort as venue for the finals of their tournaments.
In this way, the hotel and its golf course have hosted the most important tournaments of companies as: Lacoste, Ford, Honda, Audi, BMW, El Corte Inglés, etc.
The pairing sports and hotel has achieved a top position in professional, high competitive sport becoming the venue of the European Nations Golf Cup with the presence of the world´s best professionals, the celebration of 9 Spanish Pro Championships of Seniors and Women or the organization of the Peugeot Open.
Besides the world of golf, the Denia Marriott hotel has been selected by professional footballers, athletics and cyclists to prepare the season. For three years in a row, the resort is the winter training camp of the Swiss team BMC, led by the winner of the Tour de France, Cadel Evans.
