Award-winning-spanisch resort prepares for another record-breaking season on and off the course

La Cala Resort

After a record year in 2022, La Cala Resort, Spain’s leading 4* golf resort on the Costa del Sol, continues to expand and improve its facilities for what will be another exciting season of golf, on and off the course.

With over 120,000 rounds played on all three courses last year, 2022 was one of the busiest years to date for the Spanish resort. Benefitting from the positive impacts of previous renovations and changes to the courses and resort, La Cala’s forward-thinking vision of sustainability remained at the core of all of these upgrades.

As they move into the busy Spring/Summer season of 2023, La Cala continues to improve on their existing facilities. The resort is focused on offering all guests a unique experience with every visit. From clubhouse renovations to golf course upgrades, La Cala continues to lead the way with innovative sustainable practices and environmentally friendly refurbishment.

On the golf courses, the transition to Bermuda greens has successfully taken hold, offering a consistently better putting surface for golfers all-year round. Not only has this elevated the performance of the golf courses, but the transition has also achieved further environmentally friendly benefits. With a reduced need for chemical fertilisers along with limited water usage, the Bermuda greens offer a much more sustainable package for La Cala throughout the year.

Similar to the Bermuda greens transition, further sustainable efforts have been made to deliver La Cala’s vision of golfing excellence for guests using environmentally friendly methods. Utilising recycled lake water and La Cala’s state-of-the-art pumping system, maintenance teams are able to limit water usage in a more efficient way. Frequent mulching methods and remodelled bunkers have reduced overall maintenance requirements and significantly lowered overall fuel usage.

The sustainable efforts continue off the golf course, with recent renovations to La Cala’s resort facilities. The introduction of solar panels across the entire surface of the maintenance facilities generates over 200,000KW of cleaner energy, every hour. Utilised to help power the recently renovated and popular Clubhouse area, this solar powered energy supply provides La Cala with an energy efficient alternative throughout the year.

Upgrades have been made to La Cala’s extensive buggy fleet, providing the resort with more sustainable buggies for all golfers. In recent months, La Cala has replaced the petrol-powered carts with a new fleet of lithium buggies. Providing a safer and more enjoyable experience on the fairways, this upgraded buggy fleet has helped lower overall fuel usage at the resort during the busy golf seasons.

These sustainable changes have been accompanied with the successful completion of improvements to the iconic La Cala Clubhouse bar and restaurant. Upcoming additional facilities and improvements, such as the addition of padel courts and modern room renovations continue to highlight La Cala’s commitment to upgrading and improving the quality of service and experience for guests and residents year-on-year.

As Spain’s leading 4* golf resort, La Cala ; as well as boasting a 6-hole Par 3 course as part of its state-of-the-art golf academy. Designed by famous golf course architect Cabell Robinson, each 18-hole layout has been created to ensure a truly exhilarating experience.
