Miguel Angel Jiménez started a new project, Miguel Angel Jiménez Golf Academy in 2013. He had a clear objective, the school was to become a reference point for those who wanted to learn or improve their golf level. Working under the “name” of Miguel Angel Jiménez meant creating a national and international reference school and thus, incorporating the needed process to make students train, learn and practice so that they achieve the objectives stated in the three existing groups for potential students. These groups are: the students who have never played golf, the ones who want to improve their game and the advanced group who wish to become professionals. Thus, Miguel Angel himself designed and built a nine-hole course, par 3 with his own money. This golf course requires precise strokes and high concentration in short games.
At the beginning of the project, he worked in two areas mainly; members and the school. Later he developed the business side, creating a synergy between the school and the sponsors. Now, in 2018 he continuous to grow and evolve as new members of the management team have recently joined. Samuel Cadenas as Assistant Manager and Javier Díaz as Commercial Manager are the most recent incorporations. We have interviewed them so that they can tell us about the present and future of Miguel Angel Jiménez Golf Academy. Fernando Jiménez, the manager introduces them.
Fernando Jiménez (Manager)
The MAJ Golf Academy project is very busy. New members of the team have recently joined and new projects have started. Let’s talk about this.
Samuel Cadenas and Javier Díaz joined in September 2017 to develop projects along two lines mainly. On one hand, commercially, they aim to focus on companies and sponsors and on the other hand, on the day to day management and the group of members.
These two incorporations have been very productive as new agreements have been signed with the Swedish and Finish golf national teams as well as agreements with other golf courses that provide new facilities for our members; also, different golf events have been organized on the Costa del Sol. In conclusion, a giant quality leap in the services that the Academy provides members and sponsors.
Javier Díaz (Commercial Manager)
We know you that your previous work is not related to golf. However, you have worked in the business world, what are your responsibilities in the school?
Yes, as you say I do not belong to the world of golf but I have worked in business before so I know how companies and management works. These last years I have managed private university colleges and business schools in Madrid. I have been responsible for managing school relationship with companies that would like to relate to golf somehow, whether as sponsors, attending golf beginners’ courses, team building or any relationship that establishes a link between the school and consequently golf, and companies concerned.
Samuel Cadenas (Assistant Manager)
Samuel, you have worked in golf before, tell us about your work in the school.
My work has been related to golf, first in Añoreta Golf and later as a sales person for Puma Golf and as a Manager in Alhaurin Golf. I have always been in contact with the Academy and in fact, we have talked about joining the team several times but due to different circumstances it has not been possible until now. Personally, it is a pleasure to work with golf professionals that I have known for many years and above all, I feel very proud to be able to make a small contribution to Miguel Angel’s project.
My responsibilities here mainly involve organizing the day to day work, the relationship with tour operators and boosting the group of members. We have an external league and once a month we go to different golf courses. The last one was Mijas Golf. We have also created the MAJ Match Play Golf Academy Race to Valderrama that will take place in the Academy on 17th March and the final game will be held at Valderrama Golf.
