Located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, La Cala is reinventing itself by adding a new 9-hole par 3 short course to its golf offering. Adjacent to the resort’s Golf Academy and driving range, this new course has been carefully designed to meet the growing demand for faster, more flexible play formats, while retaining the quality, scenic beauty, and strategic interest for which La Cala is renowned.

The La Cala Short Course replaces the resort’s previous 6-hole loop and has been entirely reimagined to offer a complete short-game experience in a picturesque, time-efficient format. The layout features elevated tees, sweeping views of the Mediterranean, and natural integration with the rolling Mijas landscape. It is set to appeal to families, juniors, beginners and experienced players seeking a quick but rewarding round.

Designed with variety and playability in mind, the new course offers a diverse set of holes that challenge creativity and shot-making. It is equally suitable for newcomers learning the game, juniors developing their skills, or advanced players refining their wedge play and short-game precision.

The opening of the Short Course reflects a broader movement in the golf industry, with leading resorts across Europe and North America responding to player demand for more accessible and varied playing options. At La Cala, the new course complements a trio of championship 18-hole layouts, Campo America, Campo Asia and Campo Europa, each offering a distinct test of golf across some of the most dramatic terrain in southern Spain.

The Short Course is also the first phase of an ambitious upgrade programme at the Academy, which will be transformed into a dedicated “Golf Hub”, with phase two set for completion in 2026.

The Short Course will also serve as a valuable extension to La Cala’s teaching and practice facilities. Its close proximity to the Golf Academy and driving range makes it ideal for on-course coaching, warm-up sessions, and short-game-focused clinics.

Guests visiting La Cala will also enjoy access to the resort’s 4-star hotel, full-service spa, fitness centre and several dining venues, all set within the heart of the Costa del Sol. The resort has once again been nominated as Spain’s Best Golf Hotel in the 2025 World Golf Awards, reinforcing its reputation for delivering a complete and exceptional golf holiday experience.
