<\/a>Before the one hour delay, 17-year-old Hull, the youngest ever Solheim Cup player, had packed five birdies into 14 holes and beaten Creamer, the world No. 11, by 5 and 4.<\/p>\n\u201cI wasn\u2019t too nervous,\u201d said the super talented English teenager who won two out of three points. \u201cIt\u2019s always the way I look at golf, I\u2019m not going to die if I hit a bad shot.\u201d<\/p>\n
An amusing touch at the end of the match was Hull getting Creamer to sign a ball.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve got s friend, James, at home, who\u2019s a big fan so I thought I\u2019d ask,\u201d\u2019 explained the teenager who must have won a bundle of new fans over the past three days. \u201cWhen I asked her she said \u2018really\u2019?<\/p>\n
\u201cI wasn\u2019t too nervous. It\u2019s always the way I look at golf; I\u2019m not going to die if I hit a bad shot.\u201d<\/p>\n
Creamer, who lost 6 and 5 to Matthew in the top singles at Killeen Castle, was generous in defeat. \u201cShe played great but I just wish I could have given her more of a battle. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe Solheim Cup seems to bring the best or the worst out in me and I just couldn\u2019t hit a fairway on the front nine.\u201d<\/p>\n
Anna Nordqvist added a half point for Europe in the top match against the Ricoh Women\u2019s British Open Champion, Stacy Lewis and then Spanish rookie Carlota Ciganda brought the historic win even closer with a 4 and 2 triumph over Morgan Pressel. <\/p>\n
Brittany Lang finally got a full point on the board for the USA with a 2 and 1 victory over Azahara Munoz.<\/p>\n
Following the weather delay, Hedwall and Matthew did their stuff and after that everyoneas playing for pride. <\/p>\n
For Matthew, it was another great Solheim memory. The 43-year-old Scot has played seven times and she gained the winning point at Barseback in 2003.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was told coming up the 18th that if I go a half we would win outright so I was kind of shaking,\u201d said the mum of two who had parred the short 17th to draw level with Piller.<\/p>\n
\u201cI made a great par to win the 17th and then the five footer for the half at the last. Being able to celebrate with 11 team mates, the caddies and other helpers makes it far more exciting and more fun than an individual win.<\/p>\n
\u201cLotta has done a great job. She inspired us and instilled confidence. We don\u2019t need much motivation to go out and play but she got the pairings absolutely right. The key was the rookies, and the 4-0 yesterday afternoon.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the match over as a contest, Suzann Pettersen, Giulia Sergas and Karine Icher all had halved matches and Jodi Ewart-Shadoff beat Brittany Lincicome before Beatriz Recari took her point against Angela Stanford. <\/p>\n
Caroline Masson lost, but it didn\u2019t really matter. Europe won the singles 7 \u00bd – 4 \u00bd. <\/p>\n
Hedwall was Europe\u2019s top points scorer, while rookie Ciganda also had a 100% record from three starts. Recari also scored three points out of four while everyone contributed at least half a point. <\/p>\n
PROUD NEUMANN CELEBRATES HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n European Solheim Cup Captain Liselotte Neumann admitted she was \u201cexcited, proud and happy.\u201d No wonder. Her side had just achieved an historic first away win by a record 18-10 margin and reduced the overall score to 8-5 in the USA\u2019s favour. <\/p>\n After the most memorable three days at Colorado Golf Club, Neumann, who made history when she became the first Swede to win a major at the 1988 US Women\u2019s Open, summed up her emotions.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s an amazing feeling,\u201d she said. \u201cEverybody contributed and the whole team put in a huge effort. I was proud of the youngsters and my Captain\u2019s picks. Everybody played extremely well.\u201d<\/p>\n Germany\u2019s Caroline Masson had extra reason to celebrate. Europe will defend the Cup in her country in 2015 at St. Leon-Rot.<\/p>\n \u201cI will do everything I can to be on the team again in two years time,\u201d said the rookie who contributed 2 \u00bd points. \u201cI hope we can retain the Cup in Germany.\u201d<\/p>\n Neumann acknowledged that the 4-0 whitewash in the Saturday afternoon fourballs was the key to success \u2013 but she also had to keep the team\u2019s feet firmly on the ground on the eve of the 12 singles \u2013 Europe needed 3 \u00bd points on the final day to retain the trophy.<\/p>\n \u201cI was in the team in 1996 when we led by four points going into the last day so I knew what could happen,\u201d she said. \u201cWe were pretty calm and I just told them that they had to focus on every match and put pressure on the US team.\u201d<\/p>\n For USA Captain Meg Mallon it was a tough outcome. \u201cBut my players kept fighting to the end,\u201d she said. \u201cBut the Europeans played better and putted better.
