\u201cIt\u2019s not quitting,\u201d he explains. \u201cI had been thinking about it with my family for almost a year. It was time.\u201d<\/p>\n

While he still feels competitive, he acknowledges the evolution of the sport: \u201cPlayers today hit it much further. At 50, they are still very strong. The game has changed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Juan Quir\u00f3s\u2019 story is deeply rooted in effort and necessity. Born into a family of eleven siblings, golf was not a choice driven by ambition, but by responsibility.<\/p>\n

Working at the golf course during the day and studying at night, he contributed financially from a young age. \u201cBetween my brother and me, we could bring home 3,000 or 4,000 pesetas. It mattered.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before golf, he played football. A childhood accident changed everything, redirecting him toward the sport that would define his life.<\/p>\n

Support from members of his local club allowed him to compete and attend qualifying school \u2014 a decisive step into professional golf.<\/p>\n

A key turning point came through Tony Jacklin<\/strong>, who encouraged him to pursue competition at the highest level. \u201cYou have talent. You have power. You have to compete,\u201d Jacklin told him.<\/p>\n

With Jacklin\u2019s backing, Quir\u00f3s gained visibility and sponsorship, eventually earning his European Tour card<\/strong> after finishing fourth at qualifying school.<\/p>\n

Later, he found renewed success on the Legends Tour<\/strong>, where one of his most memorable moments came in Switzerland with a course-record 61<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat gave me the motivation to keep going,\u201d he recalls.<\/p>\n

A farewell in Marbella surrounded by family<\/h2>\n

His final international event at the Staysure Marbella Legends<\/strong> was particularly meaningful. Held in Marbella, a key destination for golf tourism in Spain, the tournament became a personal farewell.<\/p>\n

His wife, children and granddaughter joined him throughout the week. Each round was played alongside a different family member.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat meant everything to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

What comes next: Spanish Senior Championship and national golf<\/h2>\n

Although his international career has ended, Juan Quir\u00f3s remains active in competitive golf. He will continue playing in Spain, particularly in Sotogrande<\/strong> and La Ca\u00f1ada Golf Club<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

His next goal is clear: to win the Spanish Senior Championship<\/strong> again, where he has already secured five consecutive titles.<\/p>\n
