Alex Medina returns to the General Management of The San Roque Club. He has always been connected to this club as he is an honorary member. He was the<\/span> hotel and <\/span><\/a>course Manager from its opening in 1991 until the end of 1997. He played a significant role in the celebration of the Ryder Cub that was held in the neighbouring golf course of Valderrama.<\/span><\/p>\n

The last two years have been <\/span>a renovating experience for San Roque Club and they have implemented improvements in most of its facilities. Really, I have never left San Roque. I have been part of the Club for years, not only as a consultant but also as a member and player. In these years, the Club has not lost <\/span>its essence. Evidently,<\/span> it has had to <\/span>be <\/span>renew<\/span>ed<\/span> and improve<\/span>d<\/span> in order to be up to the quality standard required for our customers and members.<\/span><\/p>\n

If I had to mention something in particular I would say that the New Course has impressed me as it has changed from being <\/span>a new course to being a<\/span> mature<\/span> and well-established course.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nowadays, the sales and marketing world moves very fast with <\/span>the new technologies<\/span> and new sales channels. What are the sales strategy lines followed at San Roque Club?<\/span><\/p>\n

We have two departments, on one hand the Members Department and on the other hand, the Marketing Department. They are independent but they are also related <\/span>as we work together as to the suit <\/span>our clients and members.<\/span><\/p>\n

The members<\/span>\u2019<\/span> department fulfils the needs of <\/span>members;<\/span> from <\/span>attracting new ones to a personalized treatment as each member has a special need<\/span>. An events calendar<\/span> and a tournament schedule <\/span>are<\/span> made for members only.<\/span><\/p>\n

T<\/span>he Marketing department satisfies <\/span>the needs of direct c<\/span>ustomers using different means<\/span>, tour operation, <\/span>use of the <\/span>club without <\/span>playing<\/span>, tourna<\/span>ments, groups and web clients a<\/span>s well as commercial actions depending on the market we are working on. <\/span>Besides, we also work with social networking sites and publications in different communication media so as to attract more players, supporters and future members.<\/span><\/p>\n

What marketing actions are you working on at the moment?<\/span><\/p>\n

At the moment we are carrying out commercial actions in neighbouring golf courses as we are part of <\/span>the <\/span>Spain Fitness package. <\/span>It includes Valderrama, R. Sotogrande, La Reserva and Finca Cortes\u00edn. <\/span>We are also committed to commercializing this package and we were present at the AGTC fair in Manila last April.<\/span><\/p>\n

We think that all commercial actions committed to promoting this destination will benefit us.<\/span><\/p>\n

As you<\/span> have two golf courses with two different activities, for members on one hand and for external <\/span>customers<\/span> on the other. <\/span>What is your member <\/span>profile?<\/span><\/p>\n

I would say our customers are used to playing with direct clients at our Club. It has never been a problem for them and what\u2019s more<\/span>, they even take part in open to public <\/span>tournaments organized at the Club.<\/span><\/p>\n

We have different types of memberships according to needs:<\/span><\/p>\n

PLATINUM<\/span>: Ideal for members who wish to play limitless golf all year <\/span>round <\/span>in the Old Course. Besides, it includes 20 c<\/span>o<\/span>urtesy rounds in the New Course within the current year.<\/span><\/p>\n

INTERNATIONAL<\/span>: If you are a resident this membership allows <\/span>you to play <\/span>limitless golf six months a year that can be chosen in two blocks of three consecutive months.<\/span><\/p>\n

SEASONAL<\/span>: This is the perfect membership if you spend your holidays on the Costa del Sol or near Sotogrande. This allows you to choose between playing limitless golf for four months a year at members\u2019 choice or 20 rounds a year in the Old Course<\/span> (any time during the year)<\/span>. This membership offers 5 c<\/span>o<\/span>urtesy rounds during the chosen months or 5 out of th<\/span>e 20 rounds that can<\/span> played in the New Course.<\/span><\/p>\n

CORPORATIVE<\/span>: <\/span>This membership allows you to comb<\/span>ine business and golf, strengthening <\/span>a relationship with your client and using the club in your marketing plans. Some of the most successful companies have enjoyed this plan at our club. Besides, we organize golf trips to arranged clubs, golf lessons and clinics, golf & holiday packages and perso<\/span>nalized corporate events <\/span>to <\/span>suit <\/span>company\u2019s needs.<\/span><\/p>\n

How many members are there in San Roque? How is loyalty achieved nowadays that the tendency is Pay & Play and golf courses tend to have less number of members?<\/span><\/p>\n

We have around 500 members and building customers\u2019 loyalty is not an easy task.<\/span><\/p>\n

On one hand, we have members who see a second home in the club; they spend more time here than in their own house, so San Roque h<\/span>as a<\/span> very dynamic<\/span> event calendar<\/span> that starts in December and as a result, <\/span>the club is part of their social life. The club activities include roll ups, a special program for Christmas and Easter, a monthly ranking and medal, theme events, sponsor events, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the other hand, we als<\/span>o find a different member profile<\/span>; they prefer going<\/span>unperceived and play quietly with relatives or friends.<\/span><\/p>\n

We have also thought through the possibility<\/span> of creating a<\/span> pass for the New Cour<\/span>se both annual and seasonal so <\/span>we intend to ca<\/span>rry out a campaign to attract new<\/span> Club members.<\/span><\/p>\n
