{"id":12373,"date":"2016-05-23T15:18:59","date_gmt":"2016-05-23T14:18:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/golfcircus.com\/en\/?p=12373"},"modified":"2016-05-23T15:18:59","modified_gmt":"2016-05-23T14:18:59","slug":"taiwan-in-the-porsche-driving-seat-at-alcanada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/golfcircus.com\/en\/taiwan-in-the-porsche-driving-seat-at-alcanada\/","title":{"rendered":"Taiwan in the Porsche Driving Seat at Alcanada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Mallorca\u2019s Club de Golf Alcanada provided the stunning venue for the climax to the third edition of the prestigious Porsche Golf Cup World Final, with sides from Asia dominating the team competition for the second year running.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/golfcircus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Alcanada-Hole-7-small.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12374 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/golfcircus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Alcanada-Hole-7-small.jpg\" alt=\"Alcanada Hole 7 small\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/golfcircus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Alcanada-Hole-7-small.jpg 640w, https:\/\/golfcircus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Alcanada-Hole-7-small-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nearly 80 of the world\u2019s top amateur club players from 16 countries gathered at the award-winning venue in the north of the sunshine island for the finale to the two-day tournament, with the team from Taiwan beating defending champions South Korea to win the Nations Cup with Japan third.<\/p>\n<p>Germany also had plenty to celebrate as they completed a memorable individual double in the sunshine at Alcanada, with Laura Oker taking victory in the ladies\u2019 singles competition and compatriot Gunar Petersen emerging triumphant in the men\u2019s event.<\/p>\n<p>More than 8,300 Porsche customers around the world took part in 152 qualifying tournaments ahead of this year\u2019s final \u2013 which was being played at Alcanada for the third year in a row \u2013 with 40 per cent of the field having single-figure handicaps and four players boasting a plus-figure handicap.<\/p>\n<p>Competitors from across the world including New Zealand, Mexico and all over Asia travelled to Mallorca to take part and be treated to a memorable three days on and off the course. As well as also playing 18 holes at Arabella Golf Son Vida, finalists had the chance to enjoy an exclusive dinner at the island\u2019s highly-acclaimed <em>Coast<\/em> restaurant, in the chic marina of Port Adriano, and take part in a Porsche driving experience.<\/p>\n<p>Oliver Hoffmann, director of experiential marketing at Porsche AG, who presented the trophies, said: \u201cThe enthusiasm of our customers who qualified for the world final is contagious. We were once again treated to top-class sport, and it is always nice to see how the participants from different nations all mingle and share their fascination for golf at this event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Kristoff Both, director of golf at Club de Golf Alcanada, said: \u201cIt was a real pleasure for the club to host such an important amateur competition for the third year running.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe great thing about the event is that it bring players together from all over the world and gives them the chance to enjoy a five-star golfing experience in a sensational setting, something that is at the heart of what we offer\u00a0 all our members and visitors at Alcanada.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Alcanada\u2019s 7,108-yard, Robert Trent Jones Jr-designed course has won a steady stream of awards since opening 12 years ago, including being named best golf course in Europe by visitors to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.igolf.eu\">1golf.eu<\/a> for five years in a row.<\/p>\n<p>It has also been voted first in the \u2018Favourite Course in Europe\u2019 category of leading German magazine Golf Journal\u2019s annual Golf Travel Awards for six of the last eight years as well as being shortlisted at the World Golf Awards for the title of Spain\u2019s Best Golf Course\u2019 for the last two years.<\/p>\n<p>Sitting in a breathtaking location overlooking the Bay of Alcudia and adjacent to the Mediterranean, Alcanada is the only course on the island next to the sea.
