Wellness and all that it encompasses – sport, meditation, nutrition, sleep – has become, now more than ever, an essential part of any sporting routine. The SO/ SPA & HEALTH CLUB is a sanctuary within the SO/ Sotogrande Hotel. Here, products and services have been introduced, specifically designed to complement the practice of any sport, especially golf, due to the large number of golfers who visit Sotogrande, as the area hosts some of the best courses across Spain and Europe. Players have access to several types of membership, allowing them to enjoy the facilities and the personal attention of the SO/ SPA & HEALTH CLUB team.

Through innovative programmes and an exceptional range of cutting-edge treatments, the resort has implemented new wellness experiences such as cryotherapy and flotation, which prevent injuries, promote muscle recovery and reduce pain and stress.

SO/FIT is the area dedicated to getting in shape, open to clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Professionals run training sessions with state-of-the-art fitness equipment and outdoor and indoor functional fitness and cardio areas. SO/ FIT also has a cycling studio and regular classes with its experts, such as Spin by SO/ and Calm Down Pilates. One of the most popular is the morning Yoga Flow in the outdoor pavilion with breathtaking views over the Mediterranean Sea.

Next to resort’s spectacular gardens is SO/ SPA, eight spa rooms with natural therapies, a relaxation area and Hammam. At SO/ SPA & HEALTH CLUB, everything has been thought of to complement an exercise routine with cryotherapy and flotation sessions to enhance the results.

Cryotherapy

Also known as cold therapy, cryotherapy uses nitrogen to regenerate through extremely cold temperatures of between -100 and -140 degrees, applied for approximately three minutes. During this time, the body activates a survival mode causing blood to withdraw rapidly to the organs to protect them by emptying the limbs, skin and part of the circulatory system.  When the user leaves the chamber and regains body temperature, the blood flows again throughout the body.

After a cryotherapy session at SO/ SPA & HEALTH CLUB, a user will note an immediate sense of well-being and greater skin luminosity, as well as a certain feeling of floating and a general state of maximum relaxation and harmony.

The SO/ SPA & HEALTH CLUB experts supervising this treatment guide the patient for the three to five minutes duration. The first phase, the patient enters the chamber at -60 degrees Celsius, they stay for 30 seconds as preparation. The second phase, when the temperature is -110 degrees Celsius, the patient will remain, preferably moving around a little, until the session is over.

Exposing the body to extreme cold temperatures for therapeutic purposes has multiple benefits. These include injury prevention, muscle recovery, rejuvenation, elimination of toxins or reduction of muscle pain and chronic inflammatory diseases.

Flotation

Floating is another of the therapies carried out at SO/ SPA & HEALTH CLUB. This is an alternative medicine treatment that has evidence-based benefits, such as pain and stress reduction by regenerating the body and mind through relaxation. In this state, the body’s natural ability to heal, focus and harness creativity is heightened.

Carried out in a “flotation tank”, the patient is immersed face up, in the tank that has music and lights inside to simulate stars in the sky, changing colour to suit the patient. The liquid inside contains Epsom salt, a magnesium sulphate mixture which is easily absorbed through the skin, as these are essential minerals for the body.

Floating delivers a state of physical and mental relaxation, reducing stress and reducing muscle tension and chronic pain, such as migraines, asthma and arthritis, while speeding up physical recovery and rehabilitation after injury.
